Ned Flanders is a prominent recurring character in the animated sitcom, The Simpsons. He resides at 744 Evergreen Terrace, next door to the Simpson family.

Flanders is characterized by his devout Christian faith, unwavering optimism, and extreme niceness, often to the point of naivete. He is frequently portrayed as the antithesis of his neighbor, Homer Simpson.

Before becoming the overly-nice and religious neighbor of the Simpsons, Flanders lived a more wild life. His parents brought him to a psychiatrist to curb his youthful fits of rage, which left him unable to express any negativity. This led to his almost caricaturized pleasant nature.

Ned works as a left-handed goods store owner, the "Leftorium," in the Springfield Mall. He is a widower, his wife Maude having tragically died after being knocked off the stadium bleachers, but later remarried Edna Krabappel. After her death, his most recent and current love interest is the music teacher, Ms. Carol Berrera.

He has two sons, Rod and Todd, whom he raises in a strict and sheltered environment guided by his religious beliefs. His relationship with the Simpsons is often strained due to their contrasting lifestyles, though Flanders consistently attempts to maintain a friendly and helpful demeanor.
